I hope you enjoyed the last article about Embracing Failure.
As we continue this series about Success Core Principles from W. Clement Stone I hope to give you the value of these important principles.
The fourth principle is:
Look for the opportunity
“Every great man, every successful man, no matter what the field of endeavor, has known the magic that lies in these words: every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.”
After a recent presentation at the University of Tampa I was reminded about a quote from Charles Swindoll that is congruent to this idea. I will give you the last paragraph of “Attitude”:
“I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our Attitude.”
I believe our attitude about what occurs in our life helps us to realize the value of certain events. Good or bad, have or can we learn something from what occurs? There is tremendous value in what we learn. The knowledge we gain builds our value as competent, strong people that are a value to our society. Being a valuable member of our society increases our future which is great.
So many times I speak to schools that have kids that groan about homework and class work etc. I explain how the knowledge they gain builds their abilities for their future. As I went through school I had adversities as well. Those adversities helped to build my focus, my stamina and patience. At the time I didn’t want to understand the value of these skills. Yet as I went through these adversities, I learned and built these skills. When we are in the midst of a storm, it is hard to remember or image the clear sunny days and the advantages of the good days.
Yet, learning to adjust our attitude and realize that every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow helps each of us. Reminding people of this concept is a constant effort and opportunity to show a positive perspective to our future leaders.
So how can I help you?
