Make a difference today

Today is the “Drive Thru Difference” day from Spirit FM.  This is an awesome concept to make someones day brighter.  Go through the Drive thru of a restaurant and pay for the persons order behind you. Have the clerk give them the letter from the link below and smile all day.

A Great Message of Grateful Action

I heard a great message today that reminded me to be grateful for each day we have.

Psalm 30:12-13

You changed my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness. So that my glory may praise you and not be silent. O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks.

If we start our day off by being thankful, everything else seems to be a bit easier. The other item to do is put a smile on your face. You use fewer muscles by smiling than you do by frowning and scowling. When we start our day off with frustration and confusion, things aren’t so good at that moment or later in the day.

So how do we “adjust” our daily course?

  • Stop and breath for a moment
  • Realize that this “hurdle” shall get passed or pass in a short while
  • Say a short prayer, like the one above
  • Put the item in perspective
  • Take Action to move in a more positive direction

I know this is not always easy when you may be running late, trying to get the kids ready for school and one child is slower than the others, or forgets something. Life is an action sport and being involved means we have to duck, dodge and weave through the daily trials and tribulations that occur. As humans with feelings this is not always easy. The events that occur in our daily lives build our experiences, our attitude towards adversity, and our personal growth. The grumpy people are complaining now, I know.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t get a book or owners manual that said life would be easy or harder than you think some days. The journey changes scenery every minute.

So what can carry us through these “changing scenes”? Our faith will guide us in the proper direction. Our faith allows us to put a smile on our face after receiving a bill collector’s phone call or other disappointing occurrence. Faith will allow us to believe that there is a greater purpose and that our “small” problem is not so “huge”. If you doubt this concept, go volunteer at an organization that helps others. Try the children’s hospital, a local shelter or even your local church.  Give to a purpose that is bigger than you or your immediate “issue”. Or just be nice to people by saying Thank You or holding a door open for someone. You can TAKE ACTION to help.  Action is what will make a difference in the lives of others. Action will get results or put things in motion to get moving forward, get more people involved and build the support for your greater cause or mission. Not to mention it feels really good.

If your company, group or organization needs assistance to TAKE ACTION, please feel free to contact me. I would love to help.

Courage

I recently read this statement about courage in a book by Douglas Fairbanks and I wanted to share this with you.

Courage—the child of Hope—the despair of Failure. Born of Good Cheer it links its fate with the higher attributes and tramples under foot the fears which spring up before it. When sown early into the hearts of the young its companionship becomes unerring in its efficiency for good throughout their lives.

This quote spoke volumes to me.  How many times in our lives have we discounted courage becuase we weren’t sure of what others would say or what reaction people may have? How many times did we not use our courage due to the fear of turmoil?

Our countries history shows great courage by stepping into situations because it is the right thing to do. I had this opportunity the other day when I saw some kids taking a bike from someone on my sons wrestling team. I could sit there and watch it happen or step up, say something and take care of a sketchy situation.  I took action and the boy was stopped from taking something that was not his.

Life will test our courage all the time. We need to have the knowledge to know when to use our coruage for good and the right things and “trample fear”. Remember we are created from a greater source that is with us all the time and will carry us through tough moments with courage and knowledge.

Lets be courageous today to achieve our goals.
