Staying Positive

My weekend started with a not so unusual call from my oldest teen-ager.  “Dad something is up with my truck” my son said.

My son’s truck started to sputter out and not run. At least he had the fortitude to ask someone at the auto parts store what the particular engine light possibly meant.  Apparently the alternator had gone bad. Immediately my mind started down a path of “fatherly” questions; “How do we get this changed?”, “What will it cost?”, “Who can do this Friday after 5 PM?”

As my mind started to race into the negative, my son re-assured me that we could change it. I must admit, I am not a mechanic and I amnot comfortable changing parts on motors. However, he had called a friends father who does work on card and re-assured him it was pretty easy to change, then he went onto You-Tube and watched a couple videos and he checked the web site for the part and found out the price of the alternator. My son got my questions answered quickly.

At that point my only concern was for my own ability to help. As I got to him, he already had moved the air filter so we could get this done quickly. WIth my experience of tools and his determination, we were able to complete teh task and get him back on the road in about two hours.

This experience reminded me that I need to focus on the positive and on my God givem abilities to get things done. My son remionded me that I have skills and even if we don;t there is always You-Tube.. But with determination and focus we can accomplish many things we may not think we can.

We all have talents and skills and we need to remember we can accomplish many things. Many times we need to step out of our comfort zone to achieve great things.
