Winning Over Worry

I recently attended my Sunday service at Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg with Pastor, Dr. Charley Reeb.  What a great message he provided. I thought it was good advice for anyone trying to make a difference in their life or the lives of others.

So many times people think the messages from a faith organization are limited to faith.  They are really not limited. The messages we receive help in every aspect of your life. The key is the discipline to put these ideas into action in your life.  As Zig Ziglar once said, “The key is the small steps taken every day can make a huge difference to achieve your goal.” Zig Ziglar wrote “See you at The Top” a recognizable award winning book in 10 months by writing 1½ pages a day.  Let’s try to take small steps to achieve great things.

The message I received for Pastor Reeb was a message of overcoming Worry. Our society runs at such as fast pace that worry can overtake our lives and throw us into the gutter. Here are some great ideas from the sermon.

1: Change perspective, Philippians 4:4 – “Rejoice”.  Why not enjoy everything we have. As I have said before, if I am above ground, on the green side of the grass, taking in air, it is a good day. We should rejoice for that first. The other things will pass.

2: Choose Joy over happiness. Joy is from the Presence of God. Why not take part in something from the person who created everything. If you’re going to work with the best, perhaps you should listen to their ideas. They may know a thing or two that can save you a lot of time and headache.

3: Change Habits – If we are going to make a change, we need to take action. This action needs to become a habit. After 21 days we form habits. If we need to get rid of a bad habit, change your actions so you don’t do that for at least 21 days.

4: Change your thoughts, Change your life. Some quotes about this process:

“We become what we think about.” Dr. Charley Reeb

“Life Follows language and Action – or Lack of”. Bob Brumm

“The eye sees what it brings the power to see.”  Thomas Carlyle

“Be Anxious in nothing, prayerful in everything and Thankful in anything”
